Project Description:A steel framework was required for the construction of student accommodation on this project. The building consisted of commercial units and amenities at ground floor, including a mezzanine level, and 15 storeys of student dwellings above.
This project demonstrates the first iteration of Birkbeck Structures’ flexible integrated steel frame concept, utilised to enhance stability and strength in higher constructions.
We constructed the ground and mezzanine floors from a traditional steel frame, allowing an open plan layout to suit the retail units and amenities as well as acting as a transfer deck to the upper structure.
Levels 1 to 15 were constructed utilising our flexible integrated steel frame concept, formed from a combination of light gauge steel frame and hot rolled steel, steel deck and concrete floors.
This form of construction incorporates many of the partition and external walls during structural frame installation, allowing for following trades to commence immediately after the erection of each phase/ floor.
Our approach to this student accommodation project ensured the streamlined and efficient construction of the high-rise building.
